ICF-CO August 2018 In-Person Meeting: An Experiential Evening for Enhancing your Coaching Mastery

An Experiential Evening for Enhancing your Coaching Mastery: Learning From Our MCC Coaches

August 9, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:30pm MT

In-Person Meeting

CCEs: 2 in Core Competencies

Join us for a very special deep learning experience with our very own chapter MCCs!  We’ll spend the time with some great exercises designed specifically to tap their experience and bring their feedback on our own coaching skills in a small-group format.

This lively, interactive session is the launch of a commitment by ICF Colorado to ensure consistent experiential learning in support of the ICF Core Competencies and coaching ethos in our educational programming.

The session opens with a member of the ICF CO Education Leadership Team providing a brief centering activity to encourage presence in the here-and-now for everybody in the room. They will then share thoughts about the commitment to experiential learning, and how we shall support continuity of learning and the cultivation of a learning community of peers with various levels of experience and credentialing.

Next, an activity at round tables in the meeting room will permit the participants present to introduce themselves to each other, to establish trust and intimacy and coaching presence, and to prime themselves for an in-depth learning experience.

Next, there will be a mini coaching demonstration to introduce the skills of learning by observation and giving and receiving developmental feedback. The participants will be given a structured observation task during the demonstration. Upon completion of the demonstration, the participants will share their observations at their round tables and prepare one observation and one question to share in the plenary. The facilitator will then invite these observations and questions and facilitate discussion and responses from the MCC panel. The main purpose of this is to prepare for more in-depth observation and feedback in small groups.

In the next part of the session, the group will work in small groups with one MCC participating in each small group. Each MCC will share their mastery with their own small group, by coaching, observing, and giving and receiving feedback. The aim is for all involved to learn-by-doing, through practice, experimentation, observation, feedback, reflection and discussion.

The facilitator will provide clear instructions and timing for co-coaching practice, in which each participant will (i) identify a core competency that they would like to focus on in their practice during the activity; (ii) briefly inform their small group partners of their chosen focus and why it is important for them as a coach; (iii) engage in coaching one of their small group partners; (iv) reflect on their coaching in feedback-to-self; (v) listen to first-person and observational feedback from their coachee, observer and MCC observer; (vi) note one idea for continued practice in their daily coaching activities, that they will work on before the next monthly meeting. Every coach in the room will be invited to set goals for themselves and to translate their learning into a commitment to action in the weeks following the event.

The participants will then return to their round tables for a brief sharing of their action plans and a commitment to support one another in accountability during the coming month.
